Incorporate your values in your breakfast preparation and increase your chance of consistently eating healthier. You are a creature of habits and you will be drawn repeatedly to things (foods, people, experiences, etc.) that align with your values (consciously or unconsciously).  Once you realize that, you can tailor the foods you eat to align with those values and increase the likelihood of maintaining your healthy lifestyle.

what do you value when it comes to your foods?

  • taste (spices, fats)
  • variety (choose from all five categories)
  • satisfaction and/or satiety (carbohydrates, protein & fats)
  • quality (lean, minimally processed)

For example: you know that you want to eat foods in as close to their natural state as possible (quality). Thus, you want to eat foods that are minimally processed and provide the maximum amount of nutrients with the least amount of calories (caloric density).

Let’s say you also value tasty meals that leave you with a sense of satisfaction and satiety. Once you know this, you can prepare your breakfast with spices and use oils, minimally processed carbohydrates and lean protein to give you that trifactor.

5 categories of healthy breakfast foods

  • GREENS- fruits, vegetables
  • PROTEIN-salmon, tuna, sardines, smoked herring, beans, eggs (egg-whites)
  • DAIRY- greek yogurt, almond milk, coffee creamer (sorry-love my coffee)
  • GRAINS-quinoa, oats, nuts, brown rice
  • FATS-avocado, oils

(Choose your healthy greens, protein, dairy, grains, and fats)

plan your meals ahead of time

While you may think that is too rigid and regimental, planning your meals ahead of time helps you to maintain consistency, which in the long run leads to the development of healthier habits.

You can still be spontaneous if you keep the foods that you like in your home.  So, today you feel like an omelet, no worries; grab two eggs, a cup of spinach, some onion, and a clove of garlic with a teaspoon of olive oil and you have a healthy breakfast. Top that off with a slice of avocado and you just increased your satisfaction quota.

BE CREATIVE AND ENJOY THE JOURNEY IN CREATING THIS NEW & HEALTHIER YOU.
