It never ceases to amaze me the excuses we can make about why we cannot do something. When you finally do that very thing, you realize only you were creating the obstacles that prevented you from success.
ARE YOU CHOOSING DAILY WHAT YOU TRULY WANT?
If you have been following me, you know my struggles with reducing my weight. I lived on the roller coaster of losing weight, gaining weight, and then gaining more weight. You cannot keep doing what you did to gain the weight and expect to reduce your weight. Furthermore, once you reduce your weight, you cannot reclaim the identity that got you to excess weight. I am sure that everyone who is trying to reduce their weight knows this. Thus, the question is why do we keep doing the same thing repeatedly?
- Bad programming (your mindset, your attitude)
- Habits set on default (the actions you take automatically)
Your life reflects the M.A.P. and G.P.S. that you are using. It has been proven that changing our mindset is important if we want to make sustainable changes. Right next to that is our attitude, you cannot have an unhealthy or poor attitude and expect to get far. Those two combine to influence the actions that you take daily, which are driven by your identity.
You must make a commitment and stay committed

A health scare can be a quick way to get you to make the commitment. However, you may not stay committed. Often, once you start to feel better you find yourself sliding right back into the unhealthy habits. After a while, you feel so discouraged and disappointed. You even find yourself creating feelings of guilt, shame, embarrassment, or even depression. All those negative emotions leave you in a weakened state, which further compounds the issue. Therefore, you must stay in an empowered state as much as possible. When you find yourself slipping back into that weakened state, remember your compelling and exciting vision.
WE MUST REPROGRAM OUR MINDS FOR CHANGE
I am still trying to figure out how long it takes to reprogram a mind. However, there is one thing I am certain about, you cannot reprogram your mind consciously. That seems like a strange statement but bear with me. You cannot say I want to change and expect change to occur. The unconscious part of your being has other ideas. While the unconscious part likes you to be clear about what you want, it also has its own agenda. Thus, you must be consistent in your actions, your speech, and patterns of thinking. That is the only way to convince your unconscious that you are ready to change.
GET THE BALL ROLLING FOR SUCCESS
Start with the end in mind. BE healthy, so that you will act healthy (DO), and HAVE the healthy body/lifestyle you desire. There are two other psychological approaches that many people employ, and both lead to failure:
- HAVE so you can DO, and then you will BE. In this scenario you are constantly striving but never seem to get there. This leads to frustration, burnout, and then you quit because you can never achieve the goal. You never HAVE enough.
- DO so you can HAVE and then you will BE. In this scenario, you get stressed and overwhelmed and eventually give up because you can never DO enough.
