Our Relationship With Self Is Important For Our Total Health

The 2nd IMportant relationship IS A TRICKY ONE

Everyone has a relationship with their SELF; however, in many instances where self-worth is poor or non-existent, this relationship is unhealthy and unloving. As difficult as this is to read, realize that the root cause behind poor health in so many people is because deep down inside there is a limiting belief that they are not worthy.

MOST PEOPLE CARE AND CHERISH WHAT THEY VALUE

When we do not value something, what happens? Most people will not take the time, money, or energy to invest in something that has no value to them. Guess what, you do the same to yourself, consciously or unconsciously when you do not value yourself. We do not take proper care of ourselves when we do not value ourselves. Take a moment to reflect on how you treat yourself.

  1. Do you listen to your body’s physical needs?
  2. Do you pay attention to your spiritual needs daily?
  3. Are you aware that we have psychological needs [emotional and mental]?
  4. What about your financial needs?

SELF-ACCEPTANCE IS ESSENTIAL FOR YOUR TOTAL HEALTH

Knowing these needs exist is the first step, learning to meet these needs in healthy ways is the next step. Your relationship with self begins with being able to accept yourself JUST AS YOU ARE, with no conditions or qualifications. Self-acceptance as is, reflects unconditional love. It is important to realize that the self is protected by our physical body and keeping that body in decent shape is important for quality physical interactions in this world. Therefore, you may want that body to be in better physical shape; however, the condition of your body should never impact the love you give to SELF.

SOME CONSCIOUS OR UNCONSCIOUS CONDITIONS THAT EXIST

Does this sound like you? Have you ever found yourself placing conditions on how you care or treat yourself? I will be happy when I accomplish such and such. I will stop working out when I finish the three hours of exercises. I will love myself when I:

  1. Lose weight
  2. Get a better job
  3. Buy a house
  4. Put my children through college
  5. Have more money
  6. Meet the right person

YOUR WORTH IS NOT DEFINED BY YOUR POSSESSIONS

Our worth is not defined by our possessions and/or appearance. When you gain clarity about your P.I.C., you will realize that you will be more successful when you accept yourself first. A person acting from a place of acceptance is also a person who is acting from a state of abundance and gratitude. Thus, you will make healthier decisions more consistently because you care about self, you value self. When we fail to accept ourselves, we are more prone to feeling dissatisfied and chronically unhappy. Furthermore, in the constant search for things to make you feel acceptable, you can become bitter, anxious, and resentful. Ultimately, your unhealthy and unloving attitude to self will be reflected in the quality of your relationships with people, places, and things. Remember “the body is the canvas that showcases to the world, the health of the mind and soul.”
