What Does Change & House Cleaning Have in Common?

FIND OUT WHY CHANGE IS WORTH THE SACRIFICES

You resist, you procrastinate, and you think about how much time it will take you to accomplish. You desire a clean home the same way you desire “that change”; yet, you cannot seem to help yourself.  You know living in a clean home just like the change in your lifestyle is healthier and will pay big dividends in the long run, “BUT?”.

HOW DO YOU GO FROM “BUT” TO “DO”?

Let’s pick a change that is near and dear to my heart: losing weight.

I got a whole new perspective on change this weekend when I decided that I could no longer tolerate the mess. I was feeling stifled and my home was disheveled and needed more than a superficial dusting.

  • YOU MUST GET TO THE POINT WHERE THE WANT FOR THE DESIRED CHANGE IS GREATER THAN YOUR NEED FOR THE “STATUS QUO”

I felt my stress level increasing at the thought of how much work was ahead of me.

  • MAKE THE COMMITMENT TO DO IT AND TAKE IT ONE STEP AT A TIME (BABY STEPS)

The thing that holds you back from making change is that “it seems overwhelming”.  It can be if you think, “I need to lose 50 pounds”. Change that to I will focus on losing 10 pounds (SMART goals).

  • YOU GAIN POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT FROM SEEING THE HEALTHIER YOU EMERGE AND IT INSPIRES YOU TO KEEP GOING

The light came in and I could see the beauty of my bedroom and it smelt great.  That image lifted my mood and I thought “keep going, imagine how you will feel when you accomplish your goal”.

  • YOU DISCOVER THAT YOU CAN DO THIS BECAUSE YOU HAVE FOUND CREATIVE WAYS TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOAL

You realize that you have the ability to think outside the box to find solutions (healthier habits that benefit you) that help you to achieve your desired goal.

  • YOU LEARN NOT TO SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF WHEN THINGS DON’T GO AS YOU EXPECT

I almost cut my hand on a broken piece of glass that had slipped under the refrigerator.  That was not expected, but such is life.  Be flexible and willing to adapt to the unexpected. Have your accountable buddy and your go to “anchor”.

  • YOU ARE PATIENT BECAUSE THE PROCESS OF CHANGE TAKES TIME

I got tired, so I took time to re-hydrate and ate a small snack.  You do not skimp on “self-care”, remember rest is just as important as exercise and do not forget to eat healthy and smaller portions.

8 powerful benefits of change which can inspire you to fully embrace THE PROCESS OF change

I discovered a few hidden gems once the dust was removed: I could see and appreciate the beauty beneath. You re-connect with the beautiful you again, now that the dust has cleared (your weight is decreasing or you have lost the weight).

I felt free, a burden had been figuratively and literally lifted.  You experience a feeling of lightness when you lose weight (physically, emotionally, and spiritually).

Your confidence grows, which happens as you rediscover your comfort in public and in your new outfits.

You re-discover or find your creative abilities.

I gained clarity.  You come to see how you have been controlled by the unhealthy habits.

You acquire new knowledge, because to create sustainable change you had to acquire new effective skills.

You gain wisdom as you understand how the unhealthy habits “limited your personal growth & potential”.

Finally, you understand that resisting change is futile and now you embrace change and give yourself the opportunity of living your fulfilled life.
